Happy wedding- oh I mean 21st!

Being twenty-one is a huge milestone for everyone – although it simply means you’ve reached the legal age (no more sneaking into R21 movies, yay!).
Don’t we all remember this classic scene from Sleeping Beauty?

Even 3 fairy godmothers couldn’t plan out the perfect birthday party. But you can.
Preparing for a 21st birthday party is just like planning a wedding; from the guest list, venue to theme, it’s all about the details and effort we put in to celebrate the glory of having lived 21 years on this planet.
The master plan
We’ve all been there, stressing out with the things we need to do for a birthday party. But twenty-firsts are bigger, on a grander scale.

Sometimes the more you plan, the more your party becomes comparable to the scale of a legitimate wedding. The key here (no pun intended) to having a successful party is to keep a checklist while you’re at it. Pique recommends an organiser app to keep track of your shopping or to-do lists.
Pique’s pick: Wunderlist (available on Apple and Android)
Guest list
We can’t stress enough how important your invitation list is, we’ve seen people who invited their friends and family together, and amidst the crowd there’s that one friend who’s a lonely wallflower. So be considerate, if you can’t attend to all of your guests, save them from the awkward situation by simply not inviting them at all!

Venue / Location
When you receive an invitation, which one of the following could be the venue?
Cosy Chalet
Upscale Condominium clubhouse
Luxurious Villa
Chic Hotel

Pique’s pick: If you love the outdoors, consider having a party at locations such as Botanic gardens or Marina Barrage. If not, try a quaint café or perhaps even a yacht (if you want to go all out).
Create Buzz
Social media is a fantastic way of letting the world know you’re 21. We’re talking about the slew of photos on Facebook and Instagram leading in to your birthday; and if you’re up for it, have a birthday shoot – the spotlight is yours! What’s more, a smart hash-tag is a must for extra trending potential. #2ne1 #justsaying

Invitations
Facebook is a great way to send out eco-friendly invites. But while we love the convenience of an electronic invite, keeping tabs on attendees is a chore especially when invitees choose ‘Maybe’...

There’s actually a tutorial you can watch on how to create a Facebook invite.
Though we think it’s more sincere to mail out handwritten letters to friends, it’s only recommended if you’re planning to invite close friends or else it can be a tedious affair.
Decorations
What are parties without balloons, especially those pretty foiled ones to remind your attendees that you’re 21 years old?

For those who don’t like mainstream choices, customise your own numbered balloons!

People who have a higher budget can consider engaging balloon sculptors as well:

Cake
It’s not a birthday without a cake. But with a variety of choices, what should you go for? Fondant? Cream? Single or two tiered?
While fondant cakes are more Instagram-worthy, we reckon cream cakes taste much better.

Here are a few shortlisted bakeries for you to try out:
Halal bakery
The Royals
Spatula
Delcies (They offer specialised bakes, vegans and gluten allergic guys do take note)
Sooperlicious
Non-halal bakery
Mysisterbakes
SHM Cafe
Planning for a 21st party can be pretty daunting, but with all these laid out for you we hope Pique has made your life much easier.
Cheers!
